We’ve just hit 5 MILLION—yes, 5 million—period products donated to Share the Dignity. I can hardly believe it.
Pinch me so I know I’m not dreaming. What an absolutely surreal moment!
5 FLIPPING MILLION. That number is staggering.
That’s 5 million times we’ve been able to give a woman her dignity back.
It’s 5 million times a woman didn’t have to face the shame or embarrassment of not having the basic essentials to manage her period.
It’s 5 million times a girl didn’t have to miss school, a mother didn’t have to choose between feeding her family and buying period products, or a woman didn’t have to resort to unsafe alternatives like socks, newspaper, or toilet paper.
It’s 5 million moments where a woman felt seen, valued, and supported by her community.
It’s 5 million times we’ve shown that we believe in a world where no woman or girl should suffer in silence or feel less than because of her period.
It’s 5 million acts of kindness that ripple into the world, creating a wave of change.
It’s 5 million times that Share The Dignity has made a difference, and we’re not done. I’ll never stop fighting to make sure no woman or girl ever faces period poverty.
This all started after I came across an article in Mamamia about women using socks, newspaper, and wadded-up toilet paper to manage their periods. After reading that, I couldn’t stand by and do nothing.
When I first launched this charity in 2015, I never dreamed we’d come this far. But dreaming big is about having the guts to believe that what seems impossible is just a challenge waiting to be tackled. Despite the setbacks, rejection and many, many no's, we just kept plugging away. It's like they say: injustice prevails when good people stand by and do nothing. If we want to make a difference, we have to step up and act, because staying silent only allows these problems to continue.
We’ve just launched our 20th bi-annual Dignity Drive, we’ve got thousands of collection boxes across Australia—in every Woolworths supermarket, and in hundreds of other businesses that have joined us in this mission to END period poverty.
It’s our volunteers, our incredible Sheros, who deserve the biggest thanks. They’re the heart and soul of what we do. Whether period products are donated in Brisbane, Burnie, Bendigo, Broken Hill, Brighton, or Broome, they stay in the local area, helping women who’ve fled domestic violence, or facing homelessness or extreme poverty.
A massive thank you to each of you who has donated. You’re the heartbeat of this movement. Your generosity is changing lives, one period product at a time. Every single item you’ve given isn’t just a donation; it’s a lifeline, a message that says, “You matter, and you deserve dignity.” You’ve shown that when we come together, we have impact. I’m beyond grateful to have you by our side in this fight. Thank you for believing in this cause and helping us bring hope to so many women and girls.
I’m overwhelmed with gratitude. I never thought we’d reach this point, but here we are—making a bloody huge impact.
