I'm helping women and girls in need
I'm hosting a fundraiser to help women and girls in need across Australia. All funds raised from our event will help provide free period products to those in need and give them the dignity they deserve when dealing with their periods.
Any support you can give towards our fundraiser will go along way, making a huge, life-changing difference to the lives of many.
About Share the Dignity
Share the Dignity works to make a real, on the ground difference in the lives of those experiencing homelessness, fleeing domestic violence, or doing it tough. They distribute period products to those in need and work to end period poverty here in Australia. When someone is doing it tough, the last thing on their mind should be dealing with their period.

Breaking the Cycle of Period Poverty: The Impact of “It’s In The Bag
Saturday 16th NovFor many of us, basic hygiene products like shampoo, deodorant, and period supplies are everyday essentials we rarely think twice about. However, for thousands of women and girls experiencing homelessness, domestic violence, or other crises in Australia, these items are often out of reach. This is where Share the Dignity’s “It’s In The Bag” (IITB) campaign steps in to make a difference.
What is Period Poverty?
Period poverty refers to the lack of access to menstrual products, hygiene facilities, and education about menstruation. Globally, it’s a challenge that affects an estimated 500 million people, limiting their ability to manage their periods with dignity. In Australia, it’s more common than you might think. According to Share the Dignity, thousands of women and girls are forced to use makeshift items like socks, newspaper, or toilet paper to manage their periods due to financial strain.
The consequences are severe—period poverty affects not only physical health but also mental well-being, education, and employment. Girls may skip school due to a lack of access to products, and women may miss work, compounding financial hardships.
How “It’s In The Bag” Helps
Share the Dignity’s annual “It’s In The Bag” campaign is a practical, impactful way to address period poverty. From November 15 - December 1, Australians are encouraged to donate bags filled with essential items like shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, and period products. These bags, often the only gift the recipients receive all year, are distributed to shelters, community centers, and other charity partners across the country.
There are three types of bags to suit different needs:
1. Adult Bags – For women in need of essentials.
2. Teen Bags – Focused on items suitable for younger girls.
3. Mum & Bub Bags – Including both essentials for a mother and her newborn.
These bags are more than just donations—they are a lifeline. They offer dignity, relief, and a sense of being cared for during difficult times.
Why Your Support Matters
By contributing to “It’s In The Bag,” you’re doing more than providing hygiene products; you’re helping to restore dignity to those who need it most. Each bag filled with essentials and thoughtful extras (like a handwritten note or a small gift) reminds recipients that they are not forgotten.
Period poverty and a lack of access to basic necessities are solvable problems, but they require community action. Your generosity can:
• Help a young girl attend school with confidence.
• Allow a mother to care for her baby without worry.
• Provide comfort to a woman seeking shelter from domestic violence.
