Give hope and dignity to a woman or girl spending Christmas in a domestic violence refuge or homelessness shelter.

It’s in the Bag is Share the Dignity’s annual campaign where we encourage everyday Australians to fill a bag (Adult, Teen, or Mum & Bub) with essential items, pop in a simple handwritten ‘Dear Her’ note, and donate their bags at a local Bunnings. For those willing and able to go above and beyond, we encourage the addition of an extra special touch.

Each donation is personally collected, sorted, tagged and logged by our generous volunteers, before they are transported to our trusty network of charity partner organisations who gift the donations to women and girls waking up in domestic violence shelters or homelessness refuges on Christmas Day.

Collections points for 2026 will be open at every Bunnings Warehouse nationwide from 6 – 22 November 2026.

We’d love for you to help us spread the message of #ItsintheBag and we’ve tried to make it as simple as possible by preparing you with a social media toolkit.

How do you donate bags?

Find a new or pre-loved bag in good condition.

Fill the bag with essential items – shampoo, conditioner, roll-on deodorant, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste and period products. If you can, pop in a thoughtful extra or two.

Add a little kindness to your It’s in the Bag donation with a Dear Her card. Write a message of encouragement to a woman you’ll never meet.

Tell your followers about It’s in the Bag, using our social handles and hashtags.

Take your bag to your closest Bunnings Warehouse store between 6-22 November 2026.

Dear Her Card

Add a little kindness to your It’s in the Bag donation with a Dear Her card. Download our pink letter card and write a message of encouragement to a woman you’ll never meet. Place your note inside a bag filled with new and unopened essential items to remind her she is seen, valued, and supported when she needs it most.

Download the Dear Her card, pack your bag, and help make a difference with both essentials and kindness.

Pre-made content ready to share

We would love for you to share a video of yourself putting together your It’s in the Bag, writing a ‘Dear Her’ card and donating at your nearest Bunnings collection point – and requesting to collaborate with us on your post.

However, if you are short on time, here’s something we made earlier… super easy to download and post to your socials in a pinch!

Pre-written suggestions to fuel your caption inspiration

Here’s some easy key messaging to share with your audience:

Caption suggestion #1

This year I am proud to support @SharetheDignityAustralia for their #ItsintheBag Christmas appeal. I am putting together a bag for a woman or girl in need this Christmas, and you can too! Just fill a bag with essential items:

🩸 Period products
🧴 Shampoo and Conditioner
🪥 Toothbrush and Toothpaste
✨ Deodorant (roll-on preferred)
🧼 Soap or Body Wash

And, if you can, be sure to include a handwritten ‘Dear Her’ card to remind her that someone cares.

With thousands of women and girls spending Christmas in domestic violence refuges or homelessness shelters, donating an #ItsintheBag can ensure they receive a little bit of love and dignity on Christmas.

Bags can be donated at any Bunnings nationwide from 6 – 22 November. Please find the full shopping list of essential items needed at @SharetheDignityAustralia.

A small act of kindness can make an enormous difference.

Caption suggestion #2

I’m writing a letter to a woman I’ll never meet.

Why? Each year, thousands of women and girls spend Christmas in domestic violence refuges or homelessness shelters, and this year, I’m giving a little bit of love to someone who might otherwise not receive a Christmas present by donating an #ItsintheBag.

#ItsintheBag is @SharetheDignityAustralia’s annual Christmas appeal, where they encourage everyday Australians like you and me to fill a bag with essential items like shampoo, conditioner, toothbrush, toothpaste, roll-on deodorant, soap and period products, and if you can, add in an extra special gift or two. The bags are then distributed to women and girls in need around Australia.

While the contents of each bag are practical, the impact goes much deeper. Every donation tells someone they are seen, valued and deserving of dignity. That’s why a handwritten ‘Dear Her’ card is so important, to remind her she is loved and someone is thinking of her.

Bags can be donated at any Bunnings nationwide from 6 – 22 November. Learn more and find the full shopping list at @SharetheDignityAustralia.

Will you join me in writing a Dear Her card and donating an #ItsintheBag?

Together, we can help make Christmas a little brighter.

Who your donation helps

Every single It’s in the Bag donation has the potential to change someone’s life.

For Lenna, an It’s in the Bag donation arrived at the right time to give her some love as she fought through a traumatic time.

Hear directly from Lenna about how your bag has the power to give someone fleeing domestic violence, experiencing homelessness or doing it tough, a little bit of love, a little bit of hope, and the dignity they deserve.

More recipient stories can be found on our YouTube page.

Thank you for supporting our 2026 It’s in the Bag campaign!
